The Organisation CMAS
Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques, CMAS for short, was founded in January 1995. The foundation itself took place in Monaco, the association though is based in Rome. This diving organisation is active worldwide and is represented there via different other organisations. What is interesting to know is for instance that it is known as the World Underwater Federation (WUF) in the English-speaking world. In the case of the CMAS, it is an umbrella organisation which operates internationally and whose focus is scuba diving. In addition, it oversees other sports, which are related to diving. Finswimming, underwater hockey, as well as orientation diving and apnoea diving belong to those.
The course is based on the basic diving certificate, but can also be carried out without it. In this case though, a theoretical part must be completed.
Procedure: Participants without a basic diving certificate first receive theoretical training. Who already has the diving certificate receives two open water dives for around 15 minutes at a depth which ranges from 3m up to 12m.
Requirements: Proof about medically sound condition
Minimum age: 14 years
ISO-Certification: Supervised Diver in accordance with ISO 24801-1:2007 and EN 14153-1:2003
Consolidation of own knowledge and development of further skills, such as diving under complicated conditions.
Procedure: Open Water Diver is included in the course, as well as a dive under complicated conditions, exercises in restricted open water and an additional examination without diving equipment.
Requirements: Basic Diver Certificate
Minimum age: 14 years
ISO-Certification: Autonomous Diver in accordance with ISO 24801-2:2007 and EN 14153-2:2003
This is a course, which can be taken as a complement to Advanced Open Water Diver.
Procedure: The course builds up on the knowledge of the Advanced Open Water Diver Certificate and offers a special course for orientation as well as group leadership. In addition, two other courses can be taken at one’s option. The goal is the refinement of the theoretical and practical skills. For that purpose there are apnoea exercises, 25m distance diving and timed diving of 45 seconds.
Requirements: The successful completion of Advanced Open Water Diver
The successfully completed course entitles someone to carry out self-dependent dives as well and to accompany inexperienced divers. Therefore, the focus is on the leadership of groups as well as the organisation of dives. The depth limit is at 40m.
Procedure: Theory revision with subsequent practice, which consists of five dives. Every dive has a different basic task.
Requirements: CMAS** diving certificate or equivalent, medical statement offitness for diving, proof of 65 dives, 10 of the dives at depths of at least 28 metres in fresh water and 38 metres in salt water.
Minimum age: 18 years
ISO-Certification: Dive Leader in accordance with ISO 24801-3:2007 and EN 14153-3:2003
