Diving Flags are always hoisted when divers are located in the respective bodies of water. This signals to ships and boats: “Careful, there are divers under water!” Thus they can keep a distance and be particularly careful.
What types of diving flags are there?
Internationally there are two different flags in use. On one hand there is the internationally valid flag, the so-called “alpha-flag”. It is a white flag with two blue tips at the end.
The dive flag for the USA is red and has a white stripe diagonally. For some bodies of water, both of them are hoisted, but for the majority only one of them is hoisted.
