The so-called Lowry Method is a procedure for the pressure compensation when diving. This is important in order to prevent a barotrauma for example.
How does the Lowry Method work?
The method combines the active (pressing) and the passive pressure compensation (swallowing) in the inner ear. Concretely you first keep your nose closed and swallow at the same time, while you press your tongue against the palate. Sounds complicated? Actually you have to practise the method first. The advantage in comparison to other methods: The variant according to Lowry is also appropriate for large pressure differences.
