Since humans cannot breathe under water, they must take their breathing air with them when diving below the surface of water. For short stays and diving just below the surface of water, the snorkel is the right choice. Divers who are especially trained can try apnoea diving with one single breath of air. Most divers though choose scuba diving as option, in order to be able to stay as long as possible under water.
Different types of scuba diving
Thereby there are two possibilities for scuba diving. For the so-called autonomous diving, you get your breathing air via compressed air cylinders. These provide you with oxygen by means of a regulator. In the case of so-called surface supply diving, you are connected to the surface with a long tube. You receive your oxygen from there.
